Areas of Expertise

Dr Valerie has completed a Certificate in Trauma studies through the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. She is currently working on the Advanced Certificate level course. This has given her unique experience and study in trauma and the effects it has on people. Specifically, the area of complex trauma has been a focus of her study and work.

Over the last 15 years Dr Valerie has worked with veterans of war, police officers, first responders and emergency nursing staff who have experienced PTSD or cPTSD. As well as this, Dr Valerie worked with victims of abuse referred by the Royal Commission into Child Abuse and the Royal Commission into Defence Abuse. She also regularly works with victims of crime.

Dr Valerie has worked with people who have been injured in motor vehicle accidents and work accidents. She completed workshops in pain management and insomnia, which are the two biggest factors for injured people.

As well as the above, Dr Valerie is experienced in general areas of psychology. This includes working with depression, anxiety, social anxiety and phobias.
